Final Score
Watching the Final Score on BBC1 and it seems many football matches were post poned today. Does anyone know why?
It's probably something very obvious but I don't really follow football....
Thanks

A lot of the Premier League teams have undersoil heating at the grounds (Middlesbrough don't, but they have a large tent that they blow hot air through to keep the pitch i n good condition - the head groundsman claims that undersoil heating would ruin the surface), but it's expensive to install and so most lower league teams don't have it.
The final decision comes down to the Referee on the day and that's it. He's got to take into account the safety of the players and officials (very few people in football grounds give a monkeys about the officials). it'll only get colder as the day goes on so it'll freeze again and make the surface too dangerous.
OK eash? :-)

went to Exeter city to watch game against Port Vale - game ok to play at 12 o'clock - off at 1pm.
Beautiful sunny day - I dont understand it - refs have to make earlier decision than this to help travelling fans - small piece of frozen pitch in corner flag region - half a dozen hairdriers could have sorted this out.

I went to that one Mark!
It was New Years Day 1979 (just turned 13)
We did have special astro boots on and won 3-1
A win that took us to the top of what is now the Premier League.
Eventually came 3rd behind Liverpool and Forest.
It was a really bad winter which caused a fixture pile up in April which cost us the league title.

I'm a few years older than you mighty - but the biggest travesty was when we beat you at your place 1-0 in our promotion season of 75/6 - outplayed from first till last whistle. Ask your folks about it if you missed it.
After the game your fans were looking for Bristol tax discs in the car park !
You got your own back though - you got the best years out of Clive Whitehead - although you played him at full back, he was a superb winger for us.

Clive Whitehead! I remember that black curly hair!
I had my first season ticket in 75/76 used to go with my old man his mate and son.
They used to take us back to the car after the game then look for away fans! He was a right hooligan :-)
Of course "Super" Bob Taylor was the City reject we all love.
The man is a God!
