I heard an interesting suggestion regarding F1. It went along the lines of if there are 20 races and 10 teams, get every driver to drive for each team in 2 races. Then whoever has the most points has proved themselves to be the best driver as they all have to drive for the cr*p teams and the good ones.
Very occasionally there is an OUTSTANDING driver, in our generation, it was Ayrton Senna, who could go fast in anything, e.g. the Toleman at Monaco.
By and large though, given that all F1 drivers are tops, it is the car, e.g. Mario Andretti's championship season was very much down to the Lotus he was driving.
A fascinating season in prospect? All luck to Button, but if he wins it, it will have been at least 50% car.
Stick Lewis Hamilton in a Force India car and he won't be anywhere close to where he'll get in a McLaren... he'll qualify lower... therefore start on the grid lower and will have less speed... his pit stops will be slightly slower too...
However... put Giancarlo Fisichella in a McLaren and he'll still be sh1t... and winge as much as he always does...
Virtually none of us *normal drivers* would have a hope in hell in being able to even keep a F1 car on the road, never mind drive it properly.. so please don't knock these guys. Even the so-called *bad or poor F1 drivers* are actually tremendously talented and able in their field... it's just that us armchair F1 experts think we could better... no, we could not !
How many of you have even been on a skid pan ? (I have and I know just how tricky that is... to an F1 driver that would be oh so easy lol)
