Two grey horses have won the Grand National, the most recent being in 1961 when Nicolaus Silver won. Desert Orchid was another top quality grey horse although he never ran in the Grand National. There is nothing to suggest that a grey horse should not win the Grand National and now King Johns Castle has shown (finishing a gallant runner up to Comply Or Die) there is no reason why one couldn't actually win the race again.
