Yes, IF both either win or finish second in their respective groups.
But if, say, Brazil win their group but Spain finish second (or vice versa), they would have to play one another at the last 16 stage.
Every team has the possibility of meeting any other, be it in the final or beforehand.
The final WILL be between Brazil and Spain
flobadob clearly has no idea what he's talking about, the draw following the group stages is split in two and is dictated accordingly - it is not random.
if spain win group H and brazil come 2nd in group G they meet in the final 16, if they both win their group they could meet in the semis, it's that complex and that;'s why we all have a WALL CHART lol
I gotta get me a wall chart
plenty about still cazzz, I've had mine since 5th december last year! It was in the daily mirror so it's got the date on, that was the day after the group draw
my mom and dad have theirs all ready, though they are gutted at the rep of ireland going out and are hoping france will lose lol!
well aren't we all? lol
dothawkes,
You got it wrong - you were going well until you said that Brazil and Spain could meet in the semis - no they couldn't. The only place before the final that they could meet is the last 16. Beyond that, the only other possible meeting for them is the final itself.
I misread the question as meaning could they meet each other at any stage in the finals.
the final will be
argentina vs England
well whatever happens lets hope it doesnt go to penalties for england ;)
But its all hypothetical until the games actually start

A bit like I COULD meet Kelly Brook on me way home from the boozer and she'd look at me with those gorgeous eyes and tell me she'd dumped the Rugby playboy and wanted a real man

Highly unlikely you may think, but then again people also think we can win the World Cup
johnnie.5,
England and Argentina could possibly meet in the quarter finals if, for example, both win their groups, and then their last 16 games. That is therefore far more likely than meeting in the final given the fact that both have easy groups and should easily reach the last 16 where each would meet a runner up from another group for a place in the quarter finals. Hence both would expect/be expected to win and therefore would clash in the quarter finals.
I think the last 8 teams to reach the quarter-finals will be:
HOLLAND BRAZIL FRANCE ENGLAND GERMANY ARGENTINA
ITALY and SPAIN
Who do you think they will be ?
x-ray,
If it was as simple as you suggest, i.e. choosing the group favourites, then there would be little point of the other 24 teams showing up. The 8 you suggest would all have to win their groups, plus their last 16 games before landing up in the quarter finals - a tall order - all it would take is one to be runner up in their group, or to slip up in the last 16, and unfortunately your theory would go up in smoke.

For example, the likes of France, Italy and Germany are no longer the forces they all were over the past decade and there are very good teams up against them like Mexico, Uruguay, Serbia and Paraguay, any of whom could upset the applecart.

Holland, too, have a difficult group, but for me are the dark horses of this WC, and I can see them doing quite well, although they'd probably come up against Brazil if they made it as far as the QF - a daunting task?
Hi OrcadianOil,
Of course you are absolutely right. In some ways I rather hope my forecast is wrong and one or two of the lesser known sides get into the last eight - all these games are going to be toughand there are bound to be surprises.
Anyway, I feel sure it is going to be a great World Cup and I hope you and all the other readers thoroughly enjoy it.
x-ray,
Yes indeed, I'm looking forward to it very much (but don't tell the wife!) and can't wait until Friday. I just hope that it's the football which will be the only talking point over the next month and that it's a memorable tournament for the right reasons.

Bring it on!
Yes I see that now, it's not easy when you have to look at all the options and we have done that many scenarios for England that we are used to now bt we haven't done the same for the other teams.
