Surely the game is flawed if you can hand ball a certain goal and still not concede a goal. Even the pundits where saying that it's one of thoseareas where the game would benefit from a "Penalty Goal" akin to a penalty try in rugby. Why are fifa so stubborn about changing obvious flawed laws? What else would you change? 10 in the bin for a yellow would be good as well as allowing the referee to award a goal if he is certain it would have been scored but for an illegal act.

I agree with RI geezer on this one... I think the idea of afootie sin bin is sound as it benefits the opposition at the time not a team some matches later when the player has collected enough yellows to be suspended.. And I suggested the 'penalty try' equivalent on an earlier thread as there are soe cases like the Uraguay Ghana match where an end result was so blatantly unfair

No its not "flawed" at which point do you award a penalty goal? Does it extend to fouls iIf you handle on the 18yard line at the point where it meets the dead ball line is that a goal?

There is no flaw its part of the game. Ghana should have scored the penalty. If that had been England and Rooney had punched it off the line he would be a national hero.

I think the sin-bin is an excellent idea..............the monitors around the ground should also be illuminated with the word 'DIVE' or 'CHEAT' in situations of simulation....

Only for deliberate hand balls off the line when there was no doubt the ball would be in the net if it hadn't been handled.... The awarding of a conventional penalty gives the offending side a chance to save/ or a player who is extra stressed with so much riding on it is far more likely to make an error when taking the pen. Uruguay gained an unfair advantage, which may hve carried over io the shoot out as the Ghanaian players would be angry/smarting due to the injustice while the Uruguayans would be feeling more positive. The alternative would be an undefended penalty...

Yes joe they should jhave scord from the spot but it's not certain and the goal was certain had it not been hand balled off the line. Do I don't want penalty goals awarded for every denial just the illegal certain ones.

Dave Same as in rugby, if in the opinion of the referee a goal would have been scored then a "penalty goal" is awarded, the game in question is a very good example.

If a player can be sent off for "denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick" why can they not introduce a penalty goal in certain situations? There may be disputes resulting from such decisions but no more than there are with current interpretations. It works in Rugby so why not in football?

jth, a deliberate foul on someone who is in the area and about to shoot is 'illegally denied'.

Ghana had a golden opportunity to win the game from the resulting penalty, Uruguay were penalised sufficiently it's just that the africans failed to capitalize

I agree with Davethedog,
The game has been diluted enough over the years to the point that people are simply being wise in hindsight. The Ghanaians had a superb chance to win the game at the death, the Uruguayans had been fairly punished within the laws of the game, and the rest, as they say, is history.
If a player can't even hit the target from 12 yards, they really don't deserve to win.

Dave, they are changing the laws all the time. The offside law and the laws on tackling are unrecognisable from those in place 20 years ago. The sin bin is an excellent idea as it gives an advantage to the team who have suffered a bad foul, rather than the team against whom the player is eventually suspended. A timekeeper and proper game clock is long overdue also.

The referee in a game of football is solely responsible for timekeeping. Why should that be changed? There is no good reason from what I can see.

The rules are the rules.
"penalty goals" would just open up another can of worms.
The player was sent off,a penalty awarded and they missed it.
They also had a chance in a penalty shoot out but lost.
How about if it had happened in the 23rd minute etc?...
A Ghana player cheated to get the free kick that led to the incident,What about that?
Seems to be a huge "crawly bum lick"(particularly by the BBC) to want an African side to win the World Cup for some reason,if it had been the other way round nobody would care.
Still think it was an instinctive reaction from Suarez anyway.

If an England player handled on the line like Suarez did and we got through to the next round like Uruguay did, then that player would be a national hero

Agree with other posts about the rules of the game having been p1$$ed about with way too much anyway, especially the offside rule

However, goalline technology is obviously a must, and in my mind has been needed ever since we were denied a famous victory at Old Trafford when Pedro Mendes' long range shot dropped 2 yards over the United line but no goal was given

OrcadianOil, How about Michael Owen's goal against Man City last season? Also, it's one less thing to break the referee's concentration, so I really can't see an argument against it.
