Why organise such a prestige event as the Ryder Cup, at this time of the year and more so in Wales, were there was even more chance of heavy rain. Why not plan it for late July or early September when there is a much better chance of more clement weather whereever it is played

More pertinently, why not play on in the rain?? It's the same for all players after all. It would make watching it more entertaining!!
its raining today everywhere in uk....... not just in wales so it wouldn't have made any difference where in uk it was being played!

apparently its because the americans were playing fed ex cup until end of september that why its so late in year (thanks to cazzzz for that info)

That's what I meant having it anywhere in OCT seems daft
The south coast of Spain is probably quite nice at the moment.
the ryder cup travels all over europe and all over america on alternate years, its never played twice in the same place in a row, the application that celtic manor made to become a ryder cup course was made over 10 years ago, they cannot forcast that ten years later the weather would be like this, sadly the timing is more to do with the completion of the Fed Ex cup, the ryder cup used to be held in september.

the next ryder cup is in medina, illinois (2012)
I could have forecast ten years ago that it would rain in Wales in October!
the americans dont play as well in the rain, maybe it was a tactical choice?

Golf doesn't stop for rain, no matter heavy it gets. However if the course is waterlogged and there is hardly anywhere, other than completely soggy ground available to drop the ball to make it playable, they have to come off to protect the course as much as anything. Also if lightening threatens, the players are always called in immediately. Lee Trevino was hit by lightening in the 1970s and luckily survived without serious injuries. Spurs footballer Johnny White in a separate incident wasn't so lucky and died.
Now if they moved The Open to the Autumn that would make sense. There's always the risk of 4 days of windless , dry, weather in July, even in Scotland, and a links course is not much of a test for good players when the weather is calm and dry.
