One of my fav eras of history but I still have to think about which king was which when it comes to 1066. There's a very readable book by Danziger on 1066 and life, in all its facets, even down to food, booze and sex - good bit on execution techniques. The book is not as good as his 1215 though (Magna Carta) as by then, records were a lot more detailed and also the chances of them surviving were greater.......for example through the Church or early Oxbridge colleges (like that BBC 2 programme showed recently on KIbble, Leics, and the rich histroy available through the land owner, Merton College)
