Stadia with crap names

More and more sports venues seem to be having crap names foist upon them by their sponsors.

I've just discovered on another thread that The Oval is now called the Kia Oval.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was, say, the Bentley Oval.

"The Emirates" for some reason seems to work - maybe because it was never anything else.

The worst example, I think, is Lansdowne Road, which is now called

(hang on, I've forgotten ... I'll just Google it)

... yes, the "Aviva Stadium" !!

Lansdowne Road ... the ancient stronghold of Irish rugby.

I've been to Lansdowne Road with an Ex. England were a much better side, and completely dominated the game ... and lost to Ireland.

Why?

Because no matter how good you are, you do not come to Lansdowne Road and beat Ireland.

"You can play better than us, but we will still beat you."

Lansdowne Road was an intimidating fortress of patriotic Irishness ... (and, I should add, a very very jolly place to go).

A sporting graveyard for hopeful visiting teams.

But, hey ... what visiting teams could ever feel intimidated by somewhere called ...

... the "Aviva Stadium" ???

It's too comical.

Can't sponsors see the damage they are inflicting on our sporting heritage?

I'm just waiting for Smiths Lawn to become "Nissan Lawn"

When Sunderland played at Roker Park it was nick-named Joker Park north of the Tyne
Ths Stadium of Light has undergone a similar transformation, the L being replaced by Sh.

Actually, JD Sports . com Stadium is pretty rubbish.

I think it's the "dot com" bit that makes that one particularly crap.
