OH is very keen on a Kindle, but I feel the price will come down, also more and better models will come out.

Is it worth waiting?

It's really very much a personal decision - yes, prices will usually fall and upgrades happen so if you like the current version enough to believe it's good value then buy it, otherwise don't. There's no golden rule unfortunately.

P.S. I've got one and am pleased with it but one or two design features niggle a bit.

what don't you like, canary?
You could wait. But then when they bring out a new model, or drop the price, you could well ask exactly the same question - will they drop the price again? Will there be an even better model?. This could go on ad infinitum
Don't wait on 'a feeling'... unless you know exactly when a specific upgrade or price drop is due, don't bother waiting or you'll never buy...
Nice avatar, snags
You could always look for a cheap, second-hand one on Ebay.
The next time prices come down will mean the new one is coming out (most likely) - the newest version of the kindle has been kicking about for a while now.

I'm quite tempted by one, but I may just be addicted to things with screens.

As Rojash points out: the market cycle means there is never an optimum time to buy.

Would you be happy with the current model? If so either buy it now, or wait for the price to come down. If you think it is lacking in some way, wait for the newer one and pay a premium on it.

All the best,
