Recommendations for a computer game, PLEASE.

I want a game similar to Doom or a game where you have to find clues to be able to move on to the next stage or level, that you only have to use the mouse or one or two keys if you know what I mean?

broken sword games are good.puzzles within a running storyline.

They may be old but the Monkey Island games are super fun with great challenges and sound & graphics. Check they will play on PC's upwards of Windows NT

The first Quake is good. Similar to Doom and has a great atmosphere. Quake 2 is also good. All these games have a lot of secrets to discover as well as some scary monsters! Serious Sam is also worth a look. Excellent graphics and again, similar gameplay to Doom and Quake.

Quake, Doom and Serious Sam are easy to pick up and play with different levels of difficulty you can set yourself.

All the Lucas Arts games were good (The Monkey Island series is part of this). For older games, you can use ScummVM to play them in modern versions of windows.
For the adventure genre, I'd highly recommend Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit the Road and Full Throttle.

If you liked Doom, Hexen might be worth a try (if you can get it to work)
