Going from Vista to XP

I have a lappy that runs Vista, a new desktop that runs 7, and an old desktop that runs XP. There is a particular program I like which only runs on XP or earlier but having the desktop set up is inconvenient.

I also have two official versions of XP, so they can go on any computer, and I am thinking of putting one on my lappy to run this program.

I am sure it would be OK but can anyone think of any reasons as to why I might be best not to try?

Wouldn't a simpler solution be to download and install Windows XP Mode?

Maybe you're right but I never knew that! I have windows 7 professional and things I had read about it said you could install XP stuff on it. This is just a favourite music playing program, which was never updated to vista because yahoo bought them out and then dropped it. I've never found any other program that works as well as that one did.

OK having checked, it is not clear if doing this means I can load the program I have so it works. There are links to XP compatible software, including my program, but on clicking it, it is for the updated software by yahoo (for which you have to pay too) so this brings me back to my original question - any reasons anyone can think of why I could not or should not go back a system on my lappy.

BTW, the lappy is only used for surfing and storage.

just download the version of the program for the OS you have.

As said, there is no version. The program was Musicmatch which I have had since the original version with lifetime free upgrades. When they sold to Yahoo (XP days) all future variations stopped. Yahoo basically wiped out the competition and left it at that.

if you copy the files from their installation folder onto a cd and copy them onto the new machine into a pre created folder, ie bypas installation, There's a good chance that it'll run on the new OS, the machine code is the same. Then set up a short cut to the exe and copy that to your desk top. I have programs from Windows 3.11 running on vista using this technique. Not all programs work but many do, depends on their function.
