How to get rid of a virus

My daughter thinks she has a virus on her computer as it will not recognise any ".exe" files.
How can she get rid of this virus please?

Anything like Shazam online and free?

That is possible.
Switch OFF System Restore first and do a FULL Antivirus scan with the installed AV software.
Then do a full scan with Malwarebytes Antimalware.
Reboot and see what happens.
If no good this needs pro help. I know how to do it .. but not easily explained to 3rd party!
