laptop fan

why is my laptop fan going crazy? it's been noisily whizzing away for a couple of days and the lappy is still quite warm.

I only have Windows Mail and Firefox open.

Oh and it wasn't popping the heat sink, the chip internal unsoldered themselves! I've repaired a good few with a good blast from a heat gun or putting the entire main board in a oven for a few minutes.

Yeah, Chuck, it was an Nvidia chip - (wish I'd known about those free repairs!). Oh well, it's working fine again with a 6 month warranty on the work done.
