Until three days ago,I could see all the websites etc.I had visited when going to "History" now only some show up...why is this?

I am really tearing my hair out here....
Have uninstalled IE9 and now am back to IE8...which I prefer..
Now have the settings for InPrivate Browsing (these did not show up in IE9 for some reason)...it is on "off"...still getting no history saved.
All the other settings are set to save but still nothing??????????????????????
