A dozy question perhaps.!!

Sometimes it takes me three or four attempts to put my computer into a sleeping mode. Each time I try, it closes down and then restarts.

Before this posting I have gone through twice, what I believe to be the correct procedure (Close down.. then click 'sleep'.) so the next attempt will be about the average of 3.

I operate on Windows Vista, my desktop is an HP Pavillion slimline and my default browser is Firefox 6.

Please comment as you wish.( Humorously or otherwise.)

It's good to use Sleep during the daytime. Memory is kept active and laptop will be ready to use almost immediately. Much of the un-needed stuff is shut down . Open items are held in memory.
Only drawback is a power failure can lose you data on anything in use.

Yes..Putting my comp. to sleep allows me to restart with a shake of the mouse and go 'on-line' immediately; whereas a close-down can involve a few minutes, whilst everything is re-loaded.

Sorry for the dozy answer. :-)

PS. I am still intrigued as to why my computer is behaving like a child and will not go to sleep when I tell it to do so.

Ron
Whatever.
Like, 'google it' is dreadfully dismissive unless it's deeemed not dismissive.
Whatever.
Quite ...

Whatever.

The position now is that I may have to call-in a firm of double glazing experts to sort out my windows.

After my latest posting, I tried to put to sleep my comp. and then had a message which read.."CL Shed Module has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem".

I then received a further message which said.."A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available"

Perhaps I should now provide my own solution and douse the computer with
Halfords Window Cleaner which I use on my car.:-) :-)☺☺☺

Do You have Cyberlinks Power Cinema software installed Ron?

You can safely disable this process in the MSConfig startups. It is not needed most of the time .. and only then for recording.
Start/Run/ type MSConfig and enter.
Startup tab. Uncheck the entry clsched if there. OK way out and reboot, ok the popup if it appears.
You can enable it again if you need to.

No; I do not have Cyberlink Power Cinema installed. Although I do have Cyberlink DVD Suite Deluxe which came as an inbuilt item in the computer, which I bought about two yrs ago....A programme which I have never used or even registered 'on-line' with the firm concerned.

Consequently, as I have always been able to put my computer to sleep, I cannot visualise that Cyberlink is upsetting things.

Ron
because clsched.exe is a process connected with Cyberlink.
There are documented cases on the web where this problem was an annoyance.
I think it 'could' be connected with sleep or hibernation, as it has something to do with timed recording.

Thanks Al for having tried to solve my problem which has reached the stage where sometimes sleep is induced and on other occasions not so. I think I can live with it.

Also I wish to record my appreciation to all who have contributed to this thread.

Computers certainly develop a mind of their own.!!

Thought you might like to know that, the last three occasions on which I have put the baby to bed, it has gone to sleep without any problem.

Thanks again folks.

Hi Al.....I fully appreciated all of your efforts to help solve my problem and wish to apologise for what may have seemed a somewhat hasty decision, on my part, to draw matters to a close; before you offered further suggestions. I had reached a stage of frustration whereby I was fed-up with trying to resolve the matter and decided to live with it. However, I would ask you to smile after you have read the following.

It is the case that, for no reason whatsoever, I have been keeping my hand on the mouse after I have clicked ok. for 'sleep mode' and then waited for the comp. to go into an unconscious state before removing my mit from the rodent. Consequently, when I finally released the mouse from my trap there was, what could have been, only a slight shake, but enough to send a message to 'switch back on'. Need I say anymore.?
