My Kaspersky security is about to expire, I would appreciate your thoughts on whether to stay with Kaspersky or change to a different one. Should I or purchase or download a free version? Thanks.

Microsoft Security Essentials is free and very good. I've been using it for quite a while with no problems,

"Avast" for me and it is FREE, Never purchased Anti Virus, the free ones are just as good in my opinion.

Download and use Avast Free Antivirus it has the best detection rate to date and is a very easy program to use . I have used it for many years the latest version contains some the features that wre perviously only available in the paid one.
