Burn A HD DVD

I have a number of photos and (video clips) created at a function recently, using a very good spec Nikkon camera.I transferred the merged files to my PC, a Toshiba Satellite L550-113, and used Windows Movie Maker to prepare the file for burning to DVD.I inserted a Verbatim (Blu-ray Disc) BD-RE Rewritable in DVD Tray.Once I hit the button to BURN, having completed the set-up, I get a message saying ..........'The disc in your DVD Burner is not a recordable DVD....etc'.I attempted to burn a short Video Clip also and again get the same message. I wonder is my Laptop equipment or the Windows Movie Maker software suitable for this project?

Is your drive a blu-ray writer? or is it just a DVD writer, in which case you can't write blu-ray disks with it.

You can only use a Blu Ray disk in a CD/DVD tray that supports Blu Ray.

Most laptops only support CD and DVD disks (though some do support Blu Ray but not many, and even less for writing Blu Rays).

I have had a look on the internet and I dont think your laptop can create Blu Ray disks.

Thank you ChuckFickens. I asked that question yesterday in P*W*rld Henry St Dublin at the advice counter...."Do I need a special Blu-ray DVD Burner?" and was told I only needed the correct software and BD-R or BD-RE Discs.But I did feel he was incorrect. You have saved me time. Can you just recommend a blu-ray write (for desktop) and approx cost, please?

Chuck's was the only answer in when I replied to him. All of your answers are pointing to the same conclusion so thanks to all....it would be unfair to mark any particular one as the best answer so I'll do that when I get the 1st reply to my follow-up question re recommendations!

The first question I'd be asking is, do you really need to put the information on a blu-ray disk as opposed to just putting it on a DVD, putting it on a blu-ray will seriously limit the amount of people that are able to watch it (blu-ray is not as mainstream as DVD at the moment)

If you really do need to write it to blu-ray then your only real option is going to be an USB (external) blu-ray writer, have a look at the reviews here.

I'm back again with a follow-up question: having now decided to purchase a Blu-ray burner I did some research regarding the most suitable.I have two in mind, one is an external Sony SOx6xBD and the other is an internal Sony BWU-500S-WW (with Cyberlink s/w).I'm not setting this in stone and would consider other manufacturers if deemed better,e.g., SATA, but I really need to know if I should go for an internal or external drive.

If you wanna make a DVD that will work on a standard DVD player, you will need a DVD burning tool to do this. Just copy the movie to a DVD disc, it will actually not read by DVD players.

The best and most reliable DVD burning tool that I've ever used is a tool called DVD Creator. It's able to burn all kinds of videos to DVD disc. After that, you can view the DVD on DVD player. It also lets you edit videos and create DVD menus. Easy to use and professional.
