graphics on e mail

I now use gmail for my e mails and I do not get any graphics appear on screen, when I was using outlook express I always had something to click on. Please help and oldie, am I doing something wrong ?

when you open the mail there should be a link to click on at the top of the mail that says display images.

Yes there is and I click on that but still no graphics !
