Beep when plugging in laptop

I have a packard bell laptop which makes the most infernal beep in the world when i plug it in or unplug it. It's really loud and as I live in an area that has lots of short power cuts it gets really annoying if it's plugged in. (the battery is rubbish and only lasts for about 5 minutes on full charge). If I have headphones in, this seems to amplify the beep about tenfold. I am surprised my eardrums have survived this.

tl;dr. How do I stop the annoying beep? It's giving me nightmares,
