Enough or Too Much ?

I was running the free versions of Zone Alarm and Avast but have just added Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware .

Is this combination OK or could there be a conflict ? Is the Malware superfluous ?

Everything seems to be working well.

You don't need all that running! It's just all gonna be slowing down your computer. All you need is the free Microsoft one from their website and a free clean up program from cnet.com. Keep them updated. and have your programs, files on back up disk or dongle.Oh and keep off them adult websites and your computer will be fine!

Do away with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware , and install Advance System Care, run that once a month or when you feel you want to. Been using this combination for a very very long time ;-

Zone Alarm
Advance Sysytems Care


With no Problems. you do not need anything else.

Firstly ZoneAlarm is a firewall and Avast is anti virus so no conflict there. You can run them together.

Stupid advice to remove malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes (the free one) only runs "on demand" so it is not running on your computer all the time only when you actually run it (so it cant slow your computer down so ignore what RAV1D says).

It is one of the best anti malware products around so stupid to remove it.

Having all three of those together on your PC is fine.

VERY STUPID advice to remove Malwarebytes indeed. It is the best in the business, that's for sure.
Also, for a free AV, there is nothing better than Microsofts MSe at the moment.

Avast can ... and WILL slow down internet browsing .. as I have tested on a coople of machines. Out of the box .. it scans every component piece of every Web-page you go to. Then, you can only instruct it to 'ignore' sites .. so you're screwed, really .. and have to put up with slower browsing. You can see the icon in tray yourself .. spinning around on every page load.

Why didn't you wait for replies from some of us teckies DP?

OK Ron .. But you will realise Anti-Malware is not the same as Anti-Advertisement.

Malwarebytes is designed to find and remove any malware or infectious/Windows modifying content that alters ones browsing experience.

Ads can be annoying, but Malwarebytes will not find/remove any of this content .. most of it is 'landed' in the Temp internet folder/files where it is loaded from when the web-page you are viewing is built onto your browser display page.

If you want to stop almost everything annoying .. just use the Windows host file. That is what it is there for.
Advert blocking add-ons for browsers are then not needed at all, as the Windows hosts file takes precedance. It's just a text file .. not any type of add-on that may slow down otherwise 'brisk' surfing.

Thanks Al....Up to a point I can appreciate what you are saying but now feel that I am getting out of my depth and should swim for the shore.

Now back on dry land, I think I'll just rest for a while and, post outside of this thread, if I get further cause for concern.
