Mailmerge merge fields

I've set up an Excel spreadsheet as my Data Source. It has several column headings representing items in an account. I entered relevant figures under each column then the final column totals it up.
I wanted to produce a page showing these headings, each amount and the total - but, although some of the text fields appear from the source in the merge document - none of the figures appear.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
