I can receive messages but cannot open them. A message, 'A problem has occurred while trying to open this message. A problem has occurred. Please try again.' shows each time I try to open one. Any help will be much appreciated, thanks.

You could try to do a repair on Windows Live Mail by going to the All Programs and RH clicking on Windows Live Essentials and asking it to repair the program.

Yes .. do a repair or re-install. Mail store may be corrupted.
