my slidey thing has stopped working :o(

the scroll thingie on my touchpad thingie has stopped working, and now I have to drag pages up and down from the scroll thingie on the rhs of the page.

it was working earlier this morning. I've done my usual piece of technical wizardry (re-booted.. 3 times, no less) and it's still not playing.

any ideas, please?

Is there a setting for it running in the System tray?
If so, open that and check the settings :)

oh wait.. I've found "mouse settings" (I have no mouse!). it's set to "one-finger scrolling", so I assume that's right?

Sara, I do love your descriptions - I went into Homebase yesterday and told the guy that I wanted a flappy square outlet holey cover - he took me to the very thing.

is that a "no", then?? it's an HP laptop..

I have an infrequent similar problem with mine. I can normally fix it by unchecking the 'scrolling' option box and pressing 'apply' then rechecking the option and pressing 'apply'.
Haven't a clue why this works though :-)

lol.. fair point!!!

the only options are 1 or 2 (horizontal as well as vertical) finger scrolling.

All you need is the settings for Synaptic Touch Pad ..

When you find it .. Try selecting tray icon to static.

If the settingstab is not there .. the driver may not be loading ..
You may have to re-install them ..

it's the same as in your link (and thank you again).. do you think I need to tick the ClickLock in the "buttons" tab? it's unticked..

Is there a light on your touchpad thingie sara? If so double tap it to turn it off and your scroll will be back.

I wouldn't .. I hate that type of control.

Maidup, the light by the button disables the actual touchpad, so I can't do anything with it then :o/

hmmmmm... maybe it's just one of those weird things that will recover overnight, or from a few more re-boots :o/
