I'm trying to determine which version of Word I'm running. When I upgraded to Windows 7 we just transferred the one I had already; when I open it, the 'title page' comes and goes so quickly that I can't read it. Clicking on Control Panel hasn't helped, as for some reason Word isn't listed in the programs. I think I need a newer version - or is there a better alternative?

I have Office 2007 on one of my machines so that I can support clients who use it, but for daily work I use Open Office: http://www.openoffice.org/

OK.......transferred was the wrong word, obviously I meant 'installed'. Just to recap, as several posters have overlapped, Word is working well, but being conscious of everyone's advice that it's good to keep up with new technology I thought I ought to check, as this version (and I still don't know how to find out which one it is) was originally installed on my previous computer something like eight years ago. When I tried Help it informed me that a component - presumably Mr Paperclip? - was missing, but that didn't stop my being able to open Help - though it wasn't any (Help, I mean).

Data files can just be copied from one PC / drive to another.
If Word opened the file on your old Pc it ought have no problem on the new one.
I'm unsure how good Open Office is at importing other application's documents, having never used it,. Probably best "suck it & see".
