Can I transfer files from an Apple Mac to Microsoft?

I am taking over as secretary to our WI. The previous sec, has an apple mac, I use Microsoft. Is it possible to put her files on a memory stick [USB] and load onto my computer. Will they be 'readable'. Thanks for any help.
