I have a fully functioning install of XP Pro 32bit on a 2.5" IDE HDD. When I plug it into my desktop (64bit AMD, XP Pro 32bit) via USB it boots fine. When I plug it into my laptop (64bit AMD, 7 Home Premium 64bit) via USB it boots as far as XP loading screen then I get the Blue Screen of Death: 0x0000007B (0xbacc3528).
Can anyone help?
I managed to get XP installed on a 2.5" IDE HDD by plugging it into the IDE on my desktop, by way of a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter.
It boots fine via USB adapter on the desktop but not on the laptop. I think this is due to the install configuring itself for the desktop hardware.
You have to build a customised install with all the drivers for the laptop hardware streamlined in .. with SP2/3 also streamlined.
You cannot use another installation table for a different PC/laptop with completely different hardware.
so anyway, I binned the USB HDD idea and just made the laptop a dual boot with 64bit 7 and 32bit XP. Installing XP after 7 caused a few headaches as well though but they were overcome a lot easier than the whole USB thing.
