computer back up

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question but here goes - have just backed up my computer work on one of those things you plug into the front of the stack - all my documents are on it okay but do I have to do the same with emails (if so then how?) - I seem to recall someone telling me it was unnecessary as they are all stored in a cyber-vault and not actually on my computer.
Any advice appreciated - thank you

If you use the email provided by your internet provider, then this is all stored in their remote servers. Reliability varies enormously between compnaies and packages. So if you have very important emails / attachments its worth saving these yourself and backing them up on your doohickey thing.
One easy way to do this is to highlight and copy the email, paste it into a word doc then save that word doc on your own computer or backup device. That's one reason why i say you wouldn't want to do that with lots of them - so check what email storage your email has and how long its stored for.

Yahoo mail stored on their servers. You can allways open anther e mail service like google mail.and send copies of the important emails that you want to keep to that as a back up. (works for me) this way you,have back up off your computer.

If I delete a Yahoo.com email, (and empty the Trash folder) is there still a copy of it on the Yahoo server that I can access at a later date - or is it gone forever?
