Hi people, my missus is running Vista on her laptop but needs to download and install service pack 1 to get a work site to work. I have tried several times to install it as it seems to download ok but not install. The error code it gives is not the error code that microsoft gives in the help centre. Anyone any ideas? cheers in advance
May not install if not a ligitimate windows vista you are using? You could though go to control panel>system>windows update and make sure all updates are installed as it may need something from that to install.
Do you not already have service pack one installed? I thought that operating systems came with the basic service pack. Check control panel>system and security and then system. It may not be installing because you already have it.
Check out this site but when I phave been googling looks like there is a service pack two which would have automatically been installed a while ago...
You should check your update history to see if service Pack 1 is installed if it is then you should run a check and repair of all your installed updates by going to Troubleshooting in Control Panel. Once you have done this you can then download Service Pack 2 and all of the updates that follow.this will be a very long process. To me it seems that automatic updates has not been turned on or has been ignored or never setup.
Thanks for the replies people. I know a bit about pcs which is why this is bugging me. On the system page it normally gives you the windows version followed by the service pack that you have installed. No service pack is shown. Ive checked the update history and the service pack 1 is always a failed install so it recognised that it is required. When i have tried it again it appears to download ok but fails to install :-(
Go to the the Microsoft download page and you will find a service pack readiness tool which you will have to download and run which will prepare your computer to accept the service pack.
