All I get is the egg timer, it's frozen on the screen. Can someone tell me how to escape I've forgotton what to do. Just shows you how technically minded I am.

I am NOT computer literate, but was told once, that if a window will not close using the red cross or ctrl+alt+delete or escape, then use Alt+F4, and it does work, but I don't know why.

ctrl+alt+delete?
If you can still get on here then maybe you have it in another tab. Hit the cross at the top right of the other tab.

Nope sorry, ctrl alt delete is just for logging off, changing users or task managing. It hasn't shifted the frozen screen.I seem to remember using the escape key once before but don't know which other key.
Well it should be ctrl+alt+delete and you delete the programme that is highlighted blue in the box!!

I don't know which programme it is, the task manager apps show a lot of gobbledygook, the programme I watched was on Facebook, called Chill Videos William Commandeur but the screen froze, I have no idea what it is called otherwise. Nothing on the apps has anything like it.
Well delete them all and start again!

It's gone! Don't know how, it's been stuck there for ages. Although since I got IE9 the busy light flashes all the time as if it's updating, and stopping me from working on it, sometimes blanking the screen. I wonder if it's something to do with that. Not keen on it at all.
What happens if you press the Escape key, top left on your keyboard?

I tried that first boxy, but nothing happened. At least it's gone now. Funny girl suggested I delete all the programmes. That would have been a laugh, I didn't know the name of it, and wouldn't have a clue about re-instating them and possibly re-instating the one I wanted rid of in the first place, if you get my drift.

Thanks for explaining that methyl. I don't have a clue about the inner workings of it. There are quite a few programmes on the task manager when I looked at it (first time ever) and most seemed to be coded or shortened versions with different sites mentioned alongside them, eg local etc. I'm blaming IE9 not that I know much about it anyway.

I think the problem is something to do with Chrome-handler. Just looked on the task manager, it is supposed to be quicker but it is holding me up Programmes are not responding when Chrome is busy working in the background. Not happy but not sure whether to persevere with it. My screen has frozen again today.

Thanks TheWinner I'll keep that in mind. I gets so frustrating when nothing seems to work straight away, and you haven't a clue what to do next. It looks as though other ABers have been having problems with their screen freezing, mine went through eg.answerbank not responding etc, and then complete freeze up.

Just for the record Askyourgran, when you delete the applications in the task manager, it doesn't delete the program, just closes any open ones.
Funny Girl's advice was sound. :)
