Windows update and Google browser
I hate Microsoft.
Why do I always have to restart the computer whenever I have to install the new security patches? It never seems to be right afterwards.
I use a laptop (Win7 Home premium SP 1) which I usually leave in sleep or hibernate mode. I only switch it off when I need to update security patches.
After this last restart I had to reinstall my wireless colour laser printer and I lost my Google browser button on the quick launch bar.
And going to the start menu, the Google Chrome folder said it was empty.
But when I typed Chrome into the search box, it came up.
Was this something to do with Microsoft, I wonder.
And another thing. Why do I now get Windows Live Messenger popping up and asking me to log on? I didn't get that before.
(I must admit I prefer my Ubuntu laptop for many things - but cannot run some of my software on it.)
It's now telling me I have to update Live Messenger - but I don't want it!!!

I removed it as you recommended. A few minutes later I get a message saying "Important Updates" listing at least 20. When I looked they were all for Microsoft products I don't use. SO I've changed my update settings and HOPEFULLY will now only receive notifications of operating system updates.
