When I switched on this a.m. Firefox immediately did updates and then said 'incompatible add-ons are Winstrip classic 4.0.7 and Zone alarm security engine 1.5.3880 -they searched for similar compatible add-ons but didn't come up with any. My questions are ' should I be concerned about this, what are they, and do I need them? TIA - rosy

Why do you need Zone Alarm?. If you are using Windows...it has it's own in-built Firewall and you should not require another one.

Winstripe is not important and is no longer usable with Firefox 15. :-

Thank you for replying, no I don't use windows I don't like it and their firewall is disabled because I have Z.A. firewall. -rosy

So are you running Linux or do you have a Mac?
The firefox plugin is nothing to do with the ZA firewall, your za firewall will still be working fine.

As far as I know the ZA plugin is just a safe site suggester so not really needed.
Just to really throw the cat among the pigeons....

If your using a router (and haven't been silly and set it up to forward all ports or put your computer in a DMZ) and have just the windows firewall in it's default setting (inbound only) you may as well turn the windows firewall off, it won't be doing bugger all.

I meant I never use windows explorer browser, MarkRae because it always slows things down. I don't have a router, I have an ethernet cable modem. The windows firewall is switched off anyway Chuck, as I said, because I thought there should just be one firewall in use- it is probably obvious I don't understand technology- thank you for your replies - rosy
I am really getting confused...Understandable, because my knowledge of Technical matters is very very limited.

rosy is not using Windows but appears to have disabled its firewall. I can't see how this is possible if she is not using Windows.

Consequently Chuck, I think the OP now needs to answer Mark's question..
"So are you running Linux or do you have a Mac?"

Ron.
My slow typing is not helping matters.

I think rosy meant to say they aren't using windows firewall, rather than they weren't using windows.

Basically, just update your firewall, ignore the warnings about the add-ins, they are not that important, as I said earlier the zone alarm firefox add-in is nothing to do with the zone alarm firewall, that will continue to work as it always has.
Sorry, meant to say update your fireFOX not fireWALL.

yes Chuck (and Ron) that is what I meant, I am just not using windows explorer browser, sorry if I confused you (bet not as much as I confuse myself sometimes :0) Thank you Chuck but am I correct in thinking I must just have one firewall then? TIA rosy
Yes, if you are directly connected to a cable modem then you need a firewall on your computer.

BTW, it's internet explorer not Windows explorer, windows explorer is what you use to view and copy files on your computer, not pages on the internet.
