Windows Media Player keeps opening when I start up PC
7 Answers
I've gone into MSCONFIG to disable it from the start up menu, but the damn thing keeps on reappearing when I start up my PC, so I'm assuming that there's something in the WMP options that tells it to start up automatically when I start up my PC (similar to Windows Live Messenger).
The trouble is I can't seem to find anything in the options, so no matter how many times I keep disabling WMP from the start up menu, when I re-start my PC, it keeps coming back and it's back in the start up menu.
I don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm on Win Vista.
Any ideas anyone plzz ????

Yea I'm clicking "apply", then "ok".
It's weird this, 'cos I've just booted up my PC and WMP hasn't loaded up and it's not in the start up menu in MSCONFIG. It will appear at some point - it just starts up and then when I check the start up menu, it will be there.
I've just checked under the services tab and "windows media centre receiver service", "windows media centre scheduler service" and "windows media centre service launcher" have all been stopped.
However, there is something called, "windows media player network sharing service" which is running. I'm wondering if this is causing WMP to open up at some point and somehow (??) tells it to load up when my PC starts up.
I'm just playing a waiting game now and waiting for WMP to "pop up".

This is very weird.
When I re-boot my PC (after disabling WMP in MSCONFIG), WMP doesn't start up immediately. After I reboot, I check MSCONFIG and WMP is still disabled. I don't open any media files and without warning (and what appears to be random) WMP opens up.
I re-check MSCONFIG and WMP has been re-enabled in the start-up menu.
It appears that something else is causing WMP to open up, I've no idea what though.
Anyone any ideas plzz - this is doing my nut in .......

........ Right, this is even more confusing now .............
I was sat here this morning, brousing the internet on my laptop. WMP popped up when I wasn't moving anything, or pressing anything.. I closed it and within 2 seconds it popped back up, so I closed it again (closed it, not minimised it) ..... 2 seconds later it popped up again, I closed it, it popped back up ...... this happened about 4 or 5 times before I won the battle. I won this particular battle, but WMP is def winning the war at the mo . Anyone any ideas why WMP wants to take over my laptop and keep opening up for no apparent reason ??
