Spare Router

Hi,
Recently installed a Virgin Media Superhub and now have a spare modem and router (router is D Link). Would it be possible to use the old router to get a better signal in my lounge (I have a powerline to the lounge for my Samsung smart TV) in order to get a better wi-fi signal for a tablet/laptop ? If the answer should be yes, would there be much "hassle" in setting it up and would it be worth it ? Many thanks and a Happy Christmas to all !!

Yes it would be possible.

Yes it is a bit of a hassle if you don't know what you are doing.

You'd basically need to set the second router to have exactly the same SSID, and password as the main one, then change it's IP address to one that's different to the main routers subnet and switch off DHCP on the second router. then connect them together via the home plugs using the LAN ports on both routers. (not the WAN port)

Although, if you say what the exact model numbers of the routers are you may be able to set them up for WDS.... which is designed to do exactly what you want automatically.

Or, if the original router gave a good signal then just use the superhub as a modem, on the Virgin forums there is much talk of the poor wifi performance of the superhub.
