There Is No Start Up Icon

Setting up my new Dell desktop and Acer monitor as recommended on here. It all seems to be OK but there is no start icon. the only ones showing on the desktop are the recycle bin and Amazon. Can anyone help me please ?

It sounds like your new PC has Windows 8 as the operating system, this doesn't have a start menu.

If it is because you now have Windows 8 don't give up on it before you've even started by making it look like Windows 7, have a look at this downloadable guide http://www.scribd.com/doc/110440671/Getting-Started-Windows-8-Guide first.
