Do I need to download this to my laptop and if i do will i be able to transfer photos from my iphone. Is it free to use.

The ability to transfer information by bluetooth depends on the hardware of your computer rather than software - most modern laptops will have bluetooth capability and will often have an external button to turn the transmitter on and off, or they might have one of the F keys which can be toggled to switch it on or off. Best to check your user guide.

If your laptop doesn't have bluetooth built in, you'll need a USB dongle. They're not exactly expensive!

To confirm, it's not software you download, free or otherwise, it's a data transfer specification which you'll need hardware to achieve.

I use a dongle in one of my USB ports to achieve it, but I could live without it if I hadn't got a cheap bluetooth dongle years ago.
