Strange one this ................
I have an HP desktop, slimline model S5728UK, currently standing upright under my desk.
I now have a new desk and was wondering if I laid the unit flat (no air vents on the side that I wish to lay it), would it have any adverse effect on the operation of the PC ? This would be purely for space saving properties.
Many thanks

It should be fine as long as you make sure all fans, switches and vents are clear.

Many thanks for a prompt reply.

the cd drive might be awkward to use but i suppose if you rarely use it you could raise the side just enough as and when so the disk stay in place.

Thanks for the replies ABers. I'm fortunate in that the tower unit is of the slimline type, and the CD drawer when the tower is upright is vertical (bit awkward inserting CDs until you get used to it !) so if I lay it on it's side, the CD drawer will be horizontal, a bonus for me !!
Thanks again

That's an unexpected arrangement. A tower design with a vertical bay ! Are you sure the case wasn't designed to stand either way ?
My HP Pavilion Slimline has a vertical CD/DVD drawer. However I am unable to lay it on its side because, on the opposite side to the disc player, there is a definite air vent. I agree fbg40, it's not easy inserting discs; especially in my case, because I have positioned the tower behind the 20inch flat screened Monitor.

If you are sure that laying the unit on it's side will not obstruct any air vents, then I think you could be on a winner.

Old Geezer : Not sure if it was designed to go either way, nothing was mentioned in the on line blurb I read before I bought it.
Alston : Definitely no air vents on the side I am now laying it. Put it all back into working mode this am and all seems to be fine.
Will keep you all posted.

Hi Alston
Almost a week now and all seems fine, doesn't seem to be any adverse effects.

For related questions, this one really takes the biscuit.

Good for a laugh anyway (sorry Ed).

Why ?????????????????

fbg....Canary is not referring to your question but is amused by the related questions which are listed below and which bear no relationship to yours.

Anyway it is good news that everything is working ok. Have you though about putting small rubber feet on the underside of the tower.? They would certainly ensure a small amount of air space to keep the the laid down side coolish.

Alston's right fbg, I wasn't getting at you at all - but if you read the so-called related posts below, then it is amusing (to me anyway).

Sorry if it unsettled you.

Alston - answer yes, I have put some rubber feet on the side it's laying on
Canary - apologies - misinterpreted your reply, so yes I agree with you !!

fbg, I'm also looking at the related questions...... I take it that laying a flat 14'x7' concrete roof wouldn't do your PC anygood :)
