I was going to try to put some music onto CDs but most of the the information I've read says that the cables linking the player to the computer should not go into the microphone socket. That seems to be the only one available on my laptop - there is no Line-in socket. Is there a cable that would plug into a USB port, and would that give me stereo sound input?

This would do it, Dave. Just use the red and white phono plugs (left and right stereo). Leave the video unplugged. I've used these for video (incl. sound), but I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work for audio only. Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

Thanks for your reply. Took me a few minutes to spot the picture showing the USB connection but I understand know how to use it. I'll order one and give it a try. Thanks again.
