Trash Problem

I empty my trash bin on a fairly regular basis, it normally takes just a few seconds.
My trash bin now contains almost 200,000 items, and is taking a devil of a time to empty.
Have I done something mega silly ? TIA.

Are they your 200,000 items, or have they just appeared?

Sorry, Mac, Snow Leopard I think, 10.8.6. Firefox.
If I examine the trash I can see things I know I have binned, Big Fish Games etc, and photos I have binned.

They seem to appear about 2 weeks ago, a lot are multiples of the same thing too.

Well, I have now been emptying my trash for over 24 hours, and I am now down to 77,000 odd items :(

It must be some sort of spam thing.

Is there a Mac equivalent of the DOS command chkdsk? I just wonder if some files have become corrupted and are messing up the directory structure.

Must be summat daft I have done, 65, 000 odd now.
Maybe I will tiddle off to bed and leave it running. :)

Left it running overnight, just peeped, and in excess of 71,000 items.
Stopped the emptying, had a look in trash, and just ONE item was showing, a Big Fish game application.
Took it out of bin, and trash now says zero items.
I just don't get it at all ?

Sometimes there is just no answer.

Anyway it's good that things are back to normal.
