Windows 8

I am useless with a pc. Have just bought a new laptop with Windows 8 and it has been going fine for a couple of days, but today when i switched on Windows was doing an update and when it finished a page came on telling me I could choose any of the browsers listed, but as I had already been using Internet Explorer and didn't want another browser I closed it. Now I have lost the Internet Explorer icon from the bottom and cannot access it. Can anybody assist a damsel in distress please?
Good job I kept my old desk top.
