i need to get a new laptop but am very, very unsure what to get. i have about £500 complete max to spend and would appreciate some suggestions on what to get.
i would like one that also lets me play cds and dvds. is this possible?
There are plenty of £400 laptops available that play and burn cds and dvds.
What else is important to you?
Screen size
Weight
Battery life
What do expect to do with the laptop? High end gaming and video editing needs a much more powerful machine that one that is used for web browsing, emails, facebook games, office tasks.
hc - want to use it for just general work. do not indulge in gaming or anything like that.
screen size 15.5 big enough
weight - not important.
battery life min. 4 hrs.
thanks.
If you have a budget of £500 you can do better than a 15.5inch screen.
If you are proposing to watch DVDs I would suggest a bigger screen.
In fact for £400 you could get a really good Laptop and then spend say £20/40 on a pair of USB plug-in Speakers to get better quality sound than what the Laptop's inbuilt speaker will provide.
The Lenovo G700 (Alex's suggestion) is a good choice at that price...and Lenovo do well in the Which? Best Brand laptop survey.
If you really only want a 15.6 inch screen, this Toshiba is a good choice at £50 less:
If you get one with Dolby 'home theatre' sound you will not need additional speakers. With this and a 17" screen you can watch films and sports that are otherwise unavailable on FTA.
