Internet Explorer

My PC running Windows XP has both Internet Explorer and Firefox installed and until recently I could use either with no problems. For some reason however IE now takes 10 - 30 minutes to load or to move between websites, but if I start in Safe Mode it loads and can be used without any delays.
Any suggestions please how I can clear this problem?

Thanks Buenchico for your speedy response and for your suggestion.
In spite of having had this problem for some three weeks or so, immediately after posting my query I tried logging on to IE and hey presto, it came up immediately without me having tried anything new.
However thanks again and I'll keep your suggestion in mind should the problem recur.
