New Laptop

Hubby is wanting to buy a new laptop but wants to make sure the new one is compatable with Windows Vista OS and Office 2007. Chappie in the local computer shop said none of the new laptops now come preloaded with an Office package and Windows 8 is the current OS.
Hubby wants to move files from Word and Excel on old computer, which uses Office 2007, to the new one - when he gets it, and visa versa. Will he be able to do this ?

I'm not technical and hope you get a more proficient answer but from what I do know Word and Excel files will automatically convert backwards and forwards to different versions but that's if you have MS Office packages installed - which you nearly always have to buy separately. How did your husband get Office 2007?
The OS eg Vista is irrelevant and Windows 8 is the common OS on new laptops etc. They also come installed (I think) with something similar to Office but not Microsoft and free, I don't know if you can open Word and Excel files in them but probably you can.
Anyone else???

If you lack an office 2007 disk, he could buy one say from Amazon or ebay, about £70

And yes, you can move the files between the computers as you would between any devices

For info, I'm still using office 2003 as I thoroughly object to the endless merry-go-round of updating office. I haven't come across anything that I can't open. My OS's are Vista and Windows 7. So I reckon backward compatibility shouldn't trouble the Mayennaise household.
