__In a table contained in MS Word, one could easily split a table horizontally by Converting Table to Text - resulting in an empty 'normal' line/paragraph, effectively creating two separate tables. In LO Writer, when I mark a row of cells and choose Convert/Table to Text... the WHOLE table is changed, with everthing separated with tabs or paragraphs. Can anybody prevent my frustration turning ballistic? To date, years of positive experience with this OO SW. But this is a surprising weak spot. Thanks in anticipation...

Er, why are you converting to text anyway?

Simply position the cursor where you want the split to be and go to Table>Split Table. Further options here:

Incidentally, Microsoft Word lets you do the same thing as well:
