Hdmi - Vga

Given the limited time I have to check out the issue I was hoping posting the problem here might allow the PC experts to suggest a possible quick way forward/shortcut or even a solution.

I built the PC my woman uses. At the back, directly from the motherboard, it has an HDMI socket and a DisplayPort for monitor connection. However she uses her HP L1760 monitor that has a VGA connection. I reduced costs by buying a HDMI to VGA connector/convertor before giving it to her, saying that if she wanted a better graphics card she could add that herself.

It's been ok for over a year, I'd guess, but lately the monitor will intermittently claim it is going to sleep. *Very* frustrating as it's anyone's guess what'll bring it back.

First question is, is this likely to be the PC, the monitor, or the connector/convertor, and how can I quickly/cheaply confirm which ?

And perhaps before that, could it be a software error causing issues instead ?

She does have a large cathode ray VGA monitor around somewhere and my thought is to connect that and see if the issue goes away. But she won't be happy since it'll take all the desk space and dominate the study area. Still if it gives a clue.

Or is there a cheap but very reliable connection/convertor someone has first hand experience of I can invest in to check that ?

If all else fail, suggestions for a graphics card, need not be leading edge for spreadsheets and documents. :-O Hoping it doesn't come to that, I'd have to dig out the manuals to even check the bus connection, but I guess it's whatever is in vogue these days.

No experts eh; ah well.

Just an update, but the swop of monitor didn't stop it apparently. I guess the next step is to pay out cash for another convertor, which may not even be needed, to check that. Ho hum.
