My son had the same problem. If Jomlett's suggestion doesn't work, phone the Amazon Kindle helpline. They will tell you to try other things too, and if they don't work they will replace it - assuming it's still under warranty. And perhaps they will even if it's not. Kindle Fires seem to be notorious for this .
