Viewing Laptop File / Folders On Ipad 2 Mini

Hi Guys, Rather than haul my laptop around I would like to leave it in the office and just have my iPad 2 Mini in my pocket. Can you tell me that, if I purchase the iStick, I would be able to download my file / folder documents from my laptop via the usb port and then view them on the iPad 2 Mini via the micro usb port. ? I have been told I can but only by a guy who knows as little as I do. So your help please. Thanks. Tel
