Whilst updating a Workbook ( today somehow or other I ended up with a grey totally blank worksheet. It had the normal toolbars at the top and that was that. All workbooks associated with the one I was working on were the same but any other workbook not associated with it could be opened OK. In the end in frustration I did a System Restore and on completion of this everything back to normal. Any ideas on what I could have done. Have worked with Excel since the late 90's and have never experienced something like this before.

Excel 2010 had a lot of issues with memory usage and memory leaks.
At a guess, the only reason system restore solved you problem is becuase it required a restart. Probably just restarting the machine would have had the same effect (i.e. freeing up the leaked memory).
