switched on to find configuring windows 100% do not switch off but its been doing it for about an hour surely thats too long

Certainly sounds like it doesn't it? I'd suggest you boot into Safe Mode, go into Command Prompt and type in sfc /scannow and press Return
If any of your files are missing or corrupt they'll be replaced. Then scan your comp for viruses and trojans etc.
