Gaining Control Of My Computer

Every time I download a picture from the internet, I'd like it to be my decision as to where it goes. In fact, I'd like ALL pictures to go to ONE SINGLE LOCATION

I've just downloaded a picture that requires processing via Photoscape. I can't locate it Photoscape. This nonsense has gone on for long enough, it's as if someone's hacked me and are making my decisions for me.

Have they actually came up with the technology that allows photos to go to a single location?

That seems odd. In XP at least, a downloaded pic should go to the last folder you downloaded to (same for other file types). Of course, you can also change the destination at the point of download.
That said, I also experience an oddity when downloading MP3s from YouTube after conversion by youtube-mp3.org. By default they go to a folder I created for the purpose but, very occasionally, it selects a different one – the same each time – so I have to keep an eye out and change when it happens.

Your browser settings may dictate where you've asked all downloads to be saved.

In Firefox, for example, go to Tools > Options - you can either select a single location for all downloads, or have it ask you every time.

On Internet Explorer, go to the downloads window (CTRL+J), then Options, and you can set a default location there.

Your web browser allows you to choose a standard location for downloaded files or to 'always ask' (which is what I prefer). However, to the best of my knowledge, no browser allows you to choose different default locations for different file types.

When I want to download a pic (I'm using Chrome) I click the picture and it gives me choices -I pick 'save image' and it gives me a choice of where I want to to save the pic -anywhere in my files. This seems too easy an answer to your problem so maybe I'm missing something?

I can choose between downloading the pictures into either 'Downloads,' or 'Pictures' ('Pictures has an icon which is a scenery of a mountain the background and a lake in the foreground), but afterwards, when I go into Photoscape to view the picture, neither 'Downloads' or 'Pictures' are there

Surely you should be looking in 'pictures' or 'my pictures'.

In Photoscape try:-

- select 'My Computer'>'Local Disk (C:)'>'Users'>'yourwindowslogon-username'>'Downloads' (or 'My Pictures')

Have you 'expanded' the folder tree on the left in Photoscape and then opened either the 'download' folder or 'My Pictures'?

I've just d/l Photoscape and put a couple of pictures in my downloads and it found them almost instantly.

Every folder in your computer is accessible from the top left of the Editor panel in Photoscape:

Exactly what you'll see there varies between different versions of Windows. (Which version are you using?). However 'Pictures' (or 'My Pictures') should either be shown automatically or become available by double-clicking on 'Documents' (or 'My Documents'). If you can't find a folder that way, you can always start by double-clicking on 'Computer' (or 'My Computer') and then clicking through more folders from there.

Wouldn't it be simpler to find pictures or my pictures and drag a shortcut onto the desktop?

I think Lynn_M is having trouble actually finding the image thats been downloaded. Other than that your method would work fine.

If she chooses,to,download it into 'pictures' it will be there. If there's a shortcut to pictures on her desktop it will be there.

Lynn M has my sympathy.

With earlier versions of Windows it seemed simple to save stuff where you want it, but now it is more difficult.

If you don't like where it says to save it, it seems to default to saving it in downloads. Getting it to go in to pictures on the computer seems quite a battle, and it throws the option of putting into One Drive pictures.

What on earth One Drive is is not clear to us oiks.

Not saving with a missing or incorrect file extension, is it ?
