Win 10 Msconfig/safe Mode/system Restore

To be as brief as possible, I need to attempt to restore a checkpoint to reverse driver updates that seem to be the cause of problems.

PC made some ludicrous excuse if not being able to as it had no access to some file. Decided to boot into safe mode and try again.

Used msconfig to set safe mode boot. Got into safe mode.

In safe mode no sign of restore can be found ! Neither does the search work so I can't access msconfig to reset to normal boot. Nor can I find a dos window command.

Stuck and can't seem to find the way out. Suggestions please ?

Right click on Taskbar and select 'Task Manager'. You can access your start up items from there.

Ok, has anyone any suggestion on getting restore to work and not fail because of some feeble excuse about no access to some file ?

I should say it implied an issue with the AV but I retried with that off, just to get the same failure.

Try pressing and keep holding down the Shift Key and at same time select the system restart option to force a reboot boot. That should start Windows 10 to display a Troubleshooting Menu which also includes an option to perform a system recovery/restore operation, see info at:-

You seem to have gone to an awful lot of trouble there geezer. I would have just hit the windows key, selected settings, selected Update and Security, selected Recovery, then selected Reset choosing where I wanted to start the recovery from.

That's the problem. That fails. Pinky's suggested method is trying as I type. Awaiting the result.

You also have an Advanced Start Up option in that menu geezer. Not for the faint hearted. It re installs w10.

Similar problem. Except this time it doesn't moan at the AV and inaccessible files but implies it failed to save the restore point correctly.

System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer system files and settings were not changed.

You can try System Restore again and choose a different restore point. If you continue to see this error, you can try an advanced recovery method.

Didn't look at the link. Just followed the instructions here.
The last thing I need is to reinstall this OP simply to roll back a few drivers. It's beyond belief.

Where did these drivers come from Geezer? Were they part of a w10 upgrade?
If so I will avoid them.

Interesting. On the way back in I got an error message from one of the things that had an updated driver, suggesting it did achieve something. Just hope it's not going from bad to worse.

Error code 0x80070002 indicates issue with Windows updates. This problem occurs when some files in the Windows Update are missing, even though the update is downloaded and extracted successfully. This can be caused by missing files in your old system also prior to loading w10.

I'm going to take some time off to play the game that started crashing the PC every 30 to 60 minutes. See if it lasts a couple of hours or so. Trouble is it takes a long time to come to a conclusion, that is unless it starts crashing out every five minutes. Back later today.

Win 7 was updated immediately prior to installing 10 so I can't believe it is from prior to Win 10 installation. And I only updated 10, I think yesterday. I did come down to find the PC has rebooted itself overnight, which was annoying. I'll check your link after I've given the existing game a chance to show it's improved, got worse, or stayed much the same. (My gut feeling is that it is the NVIDIA drivers not coping with the DAI game; some versions worse than others.)

20 minutes and the first video driver error. Fortunately not a total PC crash, which may be an improvement. Continuing to test.

Do you only update your video/graphics driver from Windows update?

I have an Nvidia graphics card and use Nvidia's Geforce Experience to get them earlier. Also possible to update/optimise game settings.

Worth a try, you can always uninstall it if you don't like it.
